Collection of Approved Form K from High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore

After several months of waiting, I finally received an email from High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore on 12 September 2018. This is like almost a year waiting from 6 October 2017. In the email, they informed you that your application for renunciation of Malaysia Citizenship has been approved.

The collection of the approved Form K will be at the Consular Section which opens between 2.30pm to 4pm from Monday to Friday.



This is how the email looks like.

You would need to bring the following documents to High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore:

1. Print this email that High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore that you received
2. Your Singapore IC - original and 2 photocopies , front and back 
3. Your Passport -  original and 2 photocopies ( the biopage only)
4. --> In any case that your passport expire before you turn 21st, you will need to take your oath before you can renew your passport to go overseas. So you will be submitting your new passport biopage. (I handle them my old and new passport biopage just in case they need)
5. Your Acknowledge slip (MY RN1 form )  original and 2 photocopies 

^ please photocopy this (MY-RN1) without the pink slip on top.

5. Your Singapore Citizenship Certificate - original and 2 photocopies , front and back .

Procedure:

1. Place all your required documents into a plastic folder, with the email from High Commission of Malaysia on top. I go to the left counter (I don't know why left..) and pass them your documents.
2. They will ask you to wait till your name is called. When your named is called, you will get back your Yellow Borang K that you filled in on the first time you came here. And then they ask you to write your Singapore IC and sign on paper . Next will be sign beside your name and write the date just for them to know you collected your Borang K. 
3. Then Done.. But before you go off, photocopy 1 set of your approved yellow Borang K to bring it to ICA on the same day.  

*Note: If we are born in Singapore but not yet Singaporean at that point of time, we only get back the Yellow Borang K, we won't be getting back our Malaysia birth certificate .

Document Collection after Renunciation 


After 3 working days from the document submission to High Commission of Malaysia, I went back to collect my documents.

1. As usual, go to the security guard and exchange for the pass. Inform that you are collecting your renunciation forms.

2. Go to consular section, I just went to left counter and pass them your pink collection slip. They ask you to wait till your name is called.

3. After your name is called, check if the documents are yours.

1. Your MY-RN1 form that you previously printed, all filled up and submitted 

You will receive your MY-RN1 like this. There will be this pink slip paper staple on it.

Behind your MY-RN1 form, there was a yellow receipt of the SGD $10 that you paid earlier on for the processing fee.  Once the documents are ready, they will inform you to collect. 

After this step, you can go to the photocopy area at High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore to photocopy this ( without the pink slip ) , you will need to hand this to Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), 6th floor to take your oath. 

Things to bring to ICA for oath 

1. Your Oath form behind this ICA letter , (bring this letter together too ) 

2. Your Identity Card (IC) 

-> bring 2 photocopies of your IC just in case 

3. Your Original Citizenship Certificate No: S _ _ _ _ _ _ _ X 

-> bring 2 photocopies of your citizenship certificate just in case

4. Documentary evidence to prove that you have renounced your Malaysian Citizenship (orignal and photocopy)  -> Bring the MY-RN1 that you just collected and photocopied to ICA level 6 , you can take your oath. Oath taking must be taken within 1 year after attaining the age of 22 years !!!.

After Oath taking, the officer will let you know the date when is the date of submission of the documents that you have renounced your Malaysian Citizenship. 

If nearing 1-2 weeks before the deadline that the officer gave you, you still have not received any news from High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore about collecting your approved form Borang K, you can email them at ICA_Citizenship_Unit@ica.gov.sg . I keep on email to ask them to extend the deadline since I have not received any news from the High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore.

If really near 1-2  of the date you first submit your documents to High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore and you still don't have any news from the High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore, you can email ICA saying that the officer of High Commission of Malaysia said that this process normally takes 1 year of the date you first submit your documents to High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore. 

*Note: the MY-RN1 form is just a acknowledge slip to support your renunciation of your Malaysian Citizenship.

Oath of Renunciation, Allegiance and Loyalty

24 September 2017  

Around 24 September 2017, which is my 21st birthday, I received a letter from Immigration &  Checkpoints Authority (ICA). The letter which is about Oath of Renunciation, Allegiance and Loyalty. 

In my case, I am born in Singapore but not as Singaporean as my parents was Malaysian/Singapore PR at that point of time. I have been living in Singapore ever since I was born. We taken citizenship in 2009, and in the citizenship certificate did noted that I have to take Oath between 24/09/2017 and 23/09/2018. 

Hence, I will need to renounce my Malaysian Citizenship. The letter indicated that after I have renounce my Malaysia Citizenship, then I can take the Oath at ICA building 6th floor. The ICA letter also have an attached Oath form which is important to bring to ICA.

So as a first time seeing this kind of thing, I have not idea what to do. Hence I was a few week late in going High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore.

I followed this ->guide <- which helps me a lot. 

I advised you to go to Malaysia High Commission of Singapore as soon as possible as you received the letter from ICA. This process can takes around 10 months for me .. (I will explain this later on) 

Documents to bring to Malaysia High Commission of Singapore

1. Your Borang K (Yellow form) - 2 sets

This is how the Borang K page 1 looks like.

• Don't worry if you cant read Malay, there is translation of the form is here , you can refer to it while filling them up. This form is for you to download to fill beforehand, when you arrived there, you still have to fill it up again in the actual yellow Borang K form.

2. Form (MY-RN1) - 1 original

This is MY-RN1 form.

If you are born in Singapore, write your IC number at Malaysia/Singapore Birth Certificate Column.

3. Letter of Approval from ICA Singapore - Original & 2 photocopies 

4. Malaysian I.C/ Temporary Malaysian I.C - Original & 2 photocopies

--> In my case, I have already surrender my Malaysia IC when we obtained Singapore Citizenship, hence I bring my photocopies of my Malaysia IC. 

5.  Singapore Pink I.C/ National Service I.C & Singapore PR I.C  - Original & 2 photocopies

--> in my case, I already gotten my Pink IC so I'm just bringing it . Front and back of IC also needed.    

6. Malaysian / Singapore/ Foreign Birth Certificate  - Original & 2 photocopies    

--> I have both hence I need to bring both originals and 2 photocopies each. 

7. Bring SGD: $10 cash (SGD $5 for Renunciation and SGD $5 for Certify True Copy)

8. Bring your Singapore Passport - Original & 2 photocopies

-> I was so blur and I forgotten to bring my passport, and ends up asking siblings to scan/take picture of my passport then I email them the photo. 

9. Bring 3 recent passport size photograph 

-> I forget to bring since I thought I don't need it as I already have a Singapore IC and passport and I ended up taking passport size photo at the photo booth in High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore.  

10. Bring your Citizenship Certificate -Original & 2 photocopies

-> This includes the back of your Citizenship certificate too. 

11.  Bring this SURRENDER OF MALAYSIAN DOCUMENTS - Bring two photocopies 
-> Because we follow our parents to convert from Malaysian to Singaporean before we are 21st years old hence when we turn 21st years old, we need to provide this letter to our respective embassy, in this case is High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore. 

If you wonder why I have this 'Malaysia Identity Card No', this is due to after I obtained my Malaysian IC, shortwhile after , we obtained Singapore Citizenship.
